KETCHIKAN ARTIST REGISTRY
The Ketchikan Gateway Borough has proclaimed 2011 “The Year of the Artist”. The Borough Assembly recognizes that the arts enhance every aspect of living in this island community — improving the economy, enriching civic life, and driving tourism. A year long celebration kicked off the week of January 17 when the Ketchikan Gateway Borough Assembly proclaimed 2011 as the Year of the Artist in Ketchikan.
Appreciating the value of Ketchikan’s rich art and cultural resources, the Borough Assembly has allocated a portion of the commercial passenger vessel levy paid by the cruise industry to support and promote Ketchikan artists, arts and cultural organizations, facilities, and public art.
The development of an online Ketchikan Artist Registry and a website dedicated to showcasing Ketchikan artists, arts organizations, cultural facilities, and public art is one of the projects funded this year.
What is the Ketchikan Artist Registry?
The Ketchikan Artist Registry is an online data bank and interactive website. It is an opportunity for Ketchikan artists to connect with each other and the local community and showcase their work. It provides a portal for visitors, potential residents, and those who explore and travel via the internet to meet, view work, and contact Ketchikan artists.
Who should be on the Artist Registry?
Visual, literary, traditional, and performing Artists residing in the Ketchikan Gateway Borough actively working, producing, showing, and/or applying for opportunities in the arts should register.
