Cultural Facility Registration

The Ketchikan Gateway Borough has proclaimed 2011 “The Year of the Artist”. The Borough Assembly recognizes that the arts enhance every aspect of living in this island community — improving the economy, enriching civic life, and driving tourism. A year long celebration kicked off the week of January 17 when the Ketchikan Gateway Borough Assembly proclaimed 2011 as the Year of the Artist in Ketchikan.

Appreciating the value of Ketchikan’s rich art and cultural resources, the Borough Assembly has allocated a portion of the commercial passenger vessel levy paid by the cruise industry to support and promote Ketchikan artists, arts and cultural organizations, facilities, and public art.

The development of an online Ketchikan Artist Registry and a website dedicated to showcasing Ketchikan artists, arts organizations, cultural facilities, and public art is one of the projects funded this year.
