Born and raised in Oregon, I have lived and painted in Southeast Alaska for many years. Working on commercial fishing boats and the Alaska Marine Highway System has given me opportunity to intimately know the waterways and communities of Alaska’s Inside Passage. For years I painted exclusively in watercolors, finding it the perfect medium for the ephemeral mists and colors of Southeast Alaska.

In recent years I have begun to explore the expressive potential of figurative work, working in acrylics and mixed watermedia. In 2012 I had solo exhibition of my figurative work at the Ketchikan Arts Council Mainstay Gallery, featuring large canvases, bright colors, and bold gestures… a big departure from my gentle little watercolors! As I said in my artist statement for that show, I’ve only begun to figure out this painting life.
