Combining my education and work experience, plus a love of the outdoors, physical education, travel and textiles has led to an interesting career as a fiber artist/author. Walking in the forest, on beaches, to villages and throughout markets, opens my eyes to the possibilities of this art. I have also come to understand the importance of woven clothing, containers and textiles, as protection against the elements, utilitarian object, a visual language, and often carrying historical records.

Using traditional hand-constructed Northwest Coast weaving and Guatemalan net bag techniques with natural materials I create pieces influenced and inspired by Southeast Alaska’s coastal region, where thickly forested mountains meet the sea.

Weaving, research, photography, writing and teaching give me the opportunity to practice what I enjoy, share knowledge and connect with other artists as I continue to learn, understand and expand on textile traditions, while striving to develop my own style.
